Discovery Programs

Amp up Zoo School with these hands-on programs!

Discovery Programs are add-on electives for Zoo School, appropriate for grades K-5.

These are classroom-based programs that include a visit from an animal ambassador. Each session includes an opportunity to hone scientific skills through hands-on experiences, animal encounters and science notebook components. 

Discovery Programs can be added to your Zoo School day for an additional fee, adding to your list of standards met. Groups of more than 70 participants must be able to stay until 1:30 p.m.


Pricing

Price per student: $5 (in addition to the Zoo School fee)


Chaperones:

  • One FREE teacher per Zoo School classroom
  • One additional FREE Chaperone per 15 paid students
  • Additional Chaperones: $5 (in addition to the Zoo School fee)

Chaperones are required for school field trips. Maximum chaperones (including teachers, free and paying chaperones) is ONE per FOUR students.

    Grades K: Sense-sational Animals

    Explore the world of Busch Gardens’ animals through their senses.

    Sense-sational Animals connects with the following Next Generation Sunshine State Standards: SC.K.P.8.1, SC.K.L.14.1 and SC.K.N.1.2.

    Grade 1: Back to Basics

    Investigate what all living things need to survive in this interactive adventure.

    Back to Basics connects with the following Next Generation Sunshine State Standards: SC.1.N.1.4, SC.1.L.14.3 and SC.1.L.17.1.

    Grade 2: Habitatitudes

    Use teamwork to discover about habitats and the animals that live there.

    Students will study a Busch Gardens habitat and make observations and inferences about which animals should live there.


    Habitatitudes connects with the following Next Generation Sunshine State Standards: SC.2.N.1.3, SC.2.L.17.1, SC.2.L.17.2 and SC.2.N.1.2.

    Grade 3: It's Classified

    Fur and feathers. Exoskeletons and scales. Body coverings are just one way to classify animals.

    This in-depth study, with a focus on invertebrates, will allow students to investigate the classifications of the diverse animal kingdom.


    It's Classified connects with the following Next Generation Sunshine State Standards: SC.3.L.15.1 and SC.3.N.1.6.

  • American Alligators at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

    Grade 4: Oh Behave!

    Find out how the need to survive has created spectacular diversity in the animal kingdom.

    Through actual observation and demonstrations, with a special focus on Florida animals discover how we train animals and how it helps in their daily care.


    Oh Behave! connects with the following Next Generation Sunshine State Standards: SC.5.N.1.6, SC.5.L.15.1 and SC.5.L.17.1.

  • See the Armadillo at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

    Grade 5: Adaptations for Survival

    Discover how the need to survive has created spectacular diversity in the animal kingdom.

    Students will observe and explore animals up close to compare and contrast which adaptations are best suited for their habitat.


    Adaptations for Survival connects with the following Next Generation Sunshine State Standards: SC.5.N.1.6, SC.5.L.15.1 and SC.5.L.17.1.
